Manchester United Foundation has been partnered with the Michael Carrick Foundation - the charity of the men’s team head coach - since 2018. Following an illustrious career as a player, Michael wanted to give back to the areas that shaped him both as a youngster growing up in the North East, and later as a player in Manchester. Newcastle born and bred, Michael has always had a deep-rooted passion for football which began at the age of just four, when he started attending Wallsend Boys Club. Through his time at the club and experience growing up in an area of deprivation, Michael learnt the skills and discipline needed to not only become a professional footballer, but also a dedicated and respected role model. Michael strongly believes that his achievements would not have been possible without the support and services that were available to him, both on and off the pitch. It’s this belief that has inspired Michael to give something back and is the platform, from which the Michael Carrick Foundation was built. Manchester United Foundation works closely with Michael and his team throughout the season. His charity funds our Carrick’s Street Reds project - the focal point of our work together - offering free football and coaching opportunities to young people in the heart of Old Trafford.
